Tips to Slow Down: The Pinkprint for the Perfect Lazy Sunday

In Autumn and Winter, some people love being outside in the crisp air (how?), some people live in warm climates so it’s not so much a change of weather but just slowing down and for others, it’s all about Netflix and warmth (I’m all there).  I’m always on work mode so I haven’t had a relaxing morning in for a long time.  Since I’m a lil rusty, I decided to ask a few of my blogger buddies to share how they enjoy a lazy Sunday during the season.

Keep reading to enjoy their pinkprints for a relaxing Sunday in.  Plus, I’m sharing some “lazy Sunday essentials” inspired by each of the ladies.  Hopefully this post helps you wind down and relax!

My lazy self-care Sunday often looks like this: First of all no getting out of bed before midday.  You will very rarely find me out of bed before midday on any given Sunday.  Then I’ll either move myself to the couch or roll the tv into the bedroom, either way, I assume my cosy Netflix/Amazon binge position for the rest of the day.

The particular scenario of rolling the tv into the bedroom often involves bae, which means lots of sexy times in between binging 🙈.

We may have a few bites of the occasional edible as well if you see what I mean

rinsed out with copious amounts of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and/or Rioja.   After all this euhm “action” it’s time to order in.   I rarely cook on a Sunday besides the occasional pancake craving.  But if need be I’ve mastered the art of whipping out fresh pancakes in less than 30min. My preferred take out on a lazy day is either Lebanese of Thai.  I love a good hummus or fragrant jasmine rice
.  My lazy Sunday often ends in the bath where I pamper myself with my extensive skincare routine from head to toe. 1 Exfoliation, steam in the bath, 3 masks all the serums and moisturisers later, I’m ready to relocate back to my bed and end the evening with a glass of wine and a movie. To me, this is a Sunday well spent.

First things first, a lazy Sunday during Autumn/Winter includes a solid breakfast for me. A full English breakfast with a Caribbean twist to line my stomach as I sit in bed watching one of my favourite tv shows.

I always cook on a Sunday so after my breakfast has gone down a treat, I work on preparing some good grub for the evening. Music is always on rotation at my house on a Sunday. My playlist usually starts with some Gospel and then find its way to some soothing R’n’B. I love to sing so you will hear me from wherever I am in the house at the time.

Once dinner is done, I usually make my way to my living room and relax until it’s time to eat. If I don’t fall asleep in between time, then I would probably watch a film or work on some blog content for Jenna’s World View.  Not to mention having my scented candles burning all through the house to create a chilled and relaxed atmosphere.

Pumpkin-spiced coffee in one hand and flipping through PORTER or Vogue magazines with the other completes a cool-warm Sunday morning. I mean what’s autumn without fashion magazines and pumpkin-spiced everything? Am I right?

Lunch includes cuddling in my big comfy chair by the window with a sausage, spinach, bacon, egg and cheese breakfast burrito. Let’s be real, Sunday’s best for a Texas girl is nothing without an afternoon of Dak Prescott, Cole Beasley, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins and Travis Kelce. Yup, you guessed it! Football Sunday, mainly in favor of the Cowboys, outlines my day.

Add Mom’s roast and potatoes with soft chewy chocolate cookies for a tasty family dinner while screaming at the TV for a touchdown is what I like to call a relaxing autumn Sunday at my house!

As the Autumn months bring that chilly nip, lazy days are a must!  The equation for a Merrell style lazy Sunday is:

Pyjamas/ loungewear + carb-heavy food + entertainment = perfect lazy Sunday

Let me break this down a lil further:

  • Comfort– If you have never had a day where you have lived in your PJs all day, are you even human?
  • Selection of movies – I have a DVD with 3 movies on it! Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Soul Food. If I’m not in a film type of mood a box set can do the job. You basically want entertainment that requires minimal movement.
  • Carb heavy-food – Comfort food is carby food, let’s be real! Roast dinner or rice dish with some type of meat. These good meals make you fall asleep during the movie. You end up having that sweet sleep.

When asked to describe my ideal Autumn or Winter Sunday I was a bit thrown off because I’m from Southern California we don’t really have seasons, but I like to pretend we have them!.

I live near a lake and in a legal state so I enjoy starting my Sundays around 5:30 watching the sunrise with a morning toke. I sip tea, journal and thank God for a new week. Once the sun is up, I head back in and do some yoga, create content for social media or whatever makes my soul feel good.

After church, we have a family meal and then family time.  I play with my babies, watch football with my man and sip mimosas.  This lasts until 7 pm and it’s time to prep for the week ahead; I get the kid’s clothes ready and start their nighttime routine.

Sunday is a day of self-care for my soul. A day of rest. No plan, no hassle, just reflection, relaxation, and prep. I love me some Sunday.

Create your own lazy Sunday

Thanks to these ladies I’m motivated to take a break!  I’m sharing a few “Lazy Day Essentials” to help you get cozy and relaxed on your next slow Sunday plus tips on how to put it all together.

Scented candles to change the mood

I love using candles to help me let go stress and make my space feel like a private oasis.  Candles are my weakness, I probably have a drawer full of them and scented candles are my the icing on the cake for me.

Wind down on a Sunday (or any day) with this Neom Organics London Tranquillity Scented Candle or for a bit less pick up a La Jolíe Muse Scented Vanilla Coconut Candle (yum I love vanilla!).

Journals to capture every moment

Writing is soooo therapeutic for me and I can’t imagine not jotting down my ideas.  I have a massive journal collection so I totally get where Shayla is coming from about writing down your ideas.  I’m already looking for a good three (or five) journals to add to my collection!

Use this link to grab 15% off when you purchase 2 journals from Redbubble.  I’m feeling this Burn Book journal (isn’t this super fetch?) and this Owl journal is so cute.  Browse around and pick up something to hold your thoughts.

A cute coffee mug for something hot & sweet

Natonya is on the right track when it comes to starting the day with a hot drink.   Plus, who said you can’t add a lil splash of summin summin on the weekends?

Enjoy your fav drink in this Boss Lady mug (perfect for us bloggers and entrepreneurs) or this super cute Totoro Christmas mug (for all my lil anime nerds out there!!).  Use my link to get 15% off when you buy 2 mugs from Redbubble!

That’s just the tip of the lazyberg!   Check out even more Lazy Day Essentials – don’t say you’re not ready to get your relaxation on!

It doesn’t matter if the weather is changing where you live or if you’re in a hot climate, these ideas are perfect for you to enjoy a day in this holiday season (or any season!).  From these ladies I’ve learned it’s okay to take it slow every now and then, especially as the year is slowing down too.

Gosh reading their stories makes me realise just how insanely productive my weekends are, in a BAD way. I seem to always be waking up around half 6 to work on my blog or do some drawing and it’s really affecting my mental health. It’s gotten to the stage where if I sleep past 8, I feel super lazy. I really hope to implement a ‘lazy Sunday’ into my life!

      November 18, 2018

Hey Lizzie, I know exactly how you feel because this is how I currently live my Sundays too. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to do this post. I knew other people weren’t taking the time to sloooooow down. I hope you get to have a lazy Sunday before the end of the year!

    November 18, 2018

I love Sundays so much now because I used to have to work weekends so now I have them off it’s nice to be able to have a lazy day in front of the TV but that often feels like I’m wasting the day so I also love to go out for a nice long walk in the countryside some weeks in the late morning/early afternoon or we’ll spend our day in the cinema watching all of the new releases! Sometimes we’ve watched 3 films in one day!

So glad that you got a lil something from each of the ladies. I felt having different personalities would be perfect for this post. Hope you can undwind!!

  • This is such a cute post! I wish my Sundays were even half as relaxing haha! My sundays typically involve furiously rushing about to get ready for the week ahead. But maybe I’ll take some questions from this post and make sure there are at least a few hours of down time sprinkled in!

    • Olli
      November 18, 2018

Looool I feel you on the rushing part. I think even when I do relax on Sundays I’m not really relaxing because I still work on most Sundays, I need to carve proper time for myself and I appreciate how each of the ladies seem to make Sunday an actual day for themselves.

I guess that’s why brunch is so popular (aside from the alcohol of course) a big breakfast does make you feel stuffed but in the most splendid way!

hehehe I know a couple of these ladies and their answers didn’t surprise me in the least!

Natonya and her love for fashion; and Shayla with her spiritual, early bird, hard-working ways.

But it’s Merrell who described the perfect Sunday imo! As a matter of fact, it’s 3.18pm, and I’m still in my PJs surrounded by two big snoring dogs.

I love the cold and go out far more in Autumn and Winter when I can wrap up warm and embrace the cold outside. My schedule doesn’t really change and I actually feel a lot more productive this time of year, so usually end up taking even MORE on. So I far from slow down. But there’s definitely a shift in my attitude. I focus more on self care and doing things I enjoy too rather than just work, work, work all the time.

This was a great post. I love a lazy Sunday which usually starts with breakfast in bed or occassionally popping to our local all you can eat. Then it’s back home to binge watch our favourite Netlfix shows or play the PS4.
